I am in review week for finals which are next week. After that, I have a week of meetings, awards, and graduation to attend. I'll be spending most of June working at my school's summer day camp. I'm really looking forward to that because I can experiment with alternative teaching methods and gear up for the STEM / STEAM
[link] push in my department next year.
My latest poll is about summer vacation and I should explain:
Teachers is the US are either public or private employees. For a public school teacher June, July, and August are usually a time to take a holiday, do professional development, and recharge. Public school teachers usually have their salary broken into twelve monthly paydays, so they do not have to work to make ends meet in the summer. Independent (private school) teachers often are paid only through the nine months school is in session and often must have summer employment to make ends meet. Many public school teachers are required to do professional development for at least half of their summer term. Administrators rarely have time to take a lengthy summer break.
I have not worked during the summer for ten years. I decided to do something this year because I needed the extra income and it gave me a chance to develop some new teaching techniques in my own classroom. With no garden to occupy me I'm better off working.
No action on the house this week.
